Banana Almond Post Workout Smoothie....

I am a big supporter of post workout healthy meals.
Many people go to the gym, work hard, feel GREAT, then don't eat immediately after because they don't want to ruin the hard work they just did.
But let me tell ya' folks... thats bad bad bad.. with a capital B

Your post workout meal is and will be your most important meal of the day-- if you care about nutrition, losing fat, or gaining muscle.

Now there is a lot of nitty gritty I could get into about metabolic processes and recovery and blah blah blah, but I'll spare you the nutrition lesson and teach you a few simple things.

After a workout you ....
SHOULD eat protein and carbs
should NOT eat fats
SHOULD eat immediately or asap after your workout
SHOULD try to incorporate some type of WHEY PROTEIN into this meal

There ya go, cut and dry those are the most important things to remember.... easy right?

So today I bring you a recipe for one of my new post workout meals! Banana Almond Smoothie... YUM!
I saw this recipe on Chiquita banana's website but decided to develop my own recipe especially for those of us who need something tasty after our early morning run (:

Ingredients:
1 whole banana
2 handfuls of ice
1/3 cup plain greek yogurt
1/3 cup almonds
1/2 cup cooked oatmeal
Your choice of whey protein and directed amount
( I use Yoli YES vanilla essential shake)

Instructions:
  1. Start by cooking your oatmeal. I use approximately 1/2 cup oatmeal to 1/4 cup almond milk. Water is perfectly fine as well! Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
  2. Peal and cut up the banana into slices
  3. Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth.
  4. Thats it.. thats all ... yet again another EASY, fast healthy recipe (:

If you choose to use this as a breakfast shake with no protein-- then use two bananas instead of one (:

Cook your oatmeal with water OR almond milk!
Check out those nutrition facts as for why almond milk is better than milk from a moo cow!

Finished smoothie! So easy!!

The Yoli protein I use is 1 serving per packet, 12g of protein, 4g of fiber and 90 calories. It is a premium native whey protein derived from hormone free, grass fed cows. This stuff is the best in class. It stimulates metabolism, improves muscle strength, promotes digestive health, maintains cardiovascular function and sustains healthy triglyceride levels.

You will not find any Yoli products in stores.. the company just opened up this October! I just discovered this company Monday and I am already loving what they have to offer. If you are interested in finding out about Yoli and their other products please email me at hart2heartdesigns@yahoo.com and I will point you in the right direction!
